Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested four OGW operatives from Srinagar for plotting to spread violence and carry out bomb blasts in different parts of the country. The NIA has also stepped up its crackdown on militants and their supporters in Kashmir following the escalation of plots by militants to target civilians, especially non-Muslims. Two dozen NIA officials and employees have been camped in Srinagar for the past one week.
A spokesperson of the NIA said that about 16 places in Srinagar, Pulwama and Shopian were searched on Tuesday and two places on Wednesday along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. Meanwhile, four overground workers from Srinagar, Wasim Ahmed Sofi, a resident of Chattabal, Tariq Ahmed Dar, a resident of Shergarhi and Bilal Ahmed, a resident of Parimpora, and Tariq Ahmed Bafda of Rajouri Kadal have been arrested.
A spokesperson of the NIA said that terrorist organizations in various cities of the country, including Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi, have conspired to carry out large-scale destructive activities. The conspiracy is to be carried out by terrorists from organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish, Hizbul Mujahideen, Al-Badr, The Resistance Front (TRF) and the People’s Anti-Fascist Force. The four overground workers of the arrested militants have been in constant touch with the terrorist masterminds in occupied Kashmir and Pakistan through various channels to procure equipment and recruit new terrorists to carry out terrorist attacks across the country. During the search of the homes and other locations of the four arrested overground workers, jihadi literature, documents related to terror funding, mobile phones, pen drives and memory cards containing data related to terrorist activities were seized.
