It is feared that the youths died after falling from the hill and the police is still investigating the matter. The police rescue team has seized the dead bodies and further action is being taken to bring them to Dharamshala. An Air Force helicopter was also launched to search for the youths, but it was not successful.
Naveen Kumar (44) a resident Dari and Harsimranjit (34) of Gurdwara Road Dharamshala had gone for trekking on last Monday and when they did not return home, the family members on Friday had informed the police about it as their mobile phones were also switched off.
Their motorcycle was found parked in Khanyara’s Khadota area, due to which it seemed that they must have gone for Thatharna. In the investigation of the call details of the mobile phone, it was found that they had called a friend in Mandi district on Monday and had asked the route from Thatharna to Chamba. After that, the rescue teams of the police launched the search operation in Thatharna and the surrounding area. On Monday morning, the rescue team found the bodies of both the youths under a hill.
According to police officials, the bodies of the missing trekkers were found under a hill in Thatharna. Prima facie it is being suspected that the youths died due to falling from the hill. Still, the police is investigating keeping other aspects in mind. Both the bodies have been taken into custody and by Tuesday they will be handed over to the relatives after post-mortem.
After family members lodged missing complaint, Kangra district administration had deployed the search and rescue ground unit at the incident site and had also requested the Union Ministry of Defence for Aerial survey of mountain area.
