CHANDIGARH: Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala on Friday joined the Congress party ahead of the assembly elections due in early 2022.
“One of the reasons to join the Congress is to raise the voice of Punjabis,” news agency ANI quoted Moosewala as saying.

The singer joined the party at Chandigarh in the presence of chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Calling the 28-year-old a ‘youth icon’, Sidhu said the singer will soon be made to meet the Congress high command.
“The transition is music today is related to him. In the last 3-4 years, not just youngsters but elders too enjoyed his songs – in Punjab and Bollywood. He is an international figure,” he added.
Sidhu, however, conceded that some people may have objections.
“The surest form of failure is trying to please everyone… He writes lyrics in his soulful style and signs. He is liked by youth across the parties. His father is an ex-serviceman,” he said.
Moose Wala is likely to contest from Mansa or Maur and the party is likely to use him for campaigning in adjoining areas of the Malwa region.
Channi said some songs of Moose Wala had become very popular and Congress would gain from someone who understands the sentiments of people and instantly connects with him.
“He is from an ordinary family and I welcome him to the party. I am sure he will take the youth of the state along to bring about a revolution,” said the chief minister.
