Rabia murder: HC notice to CBI, Haryana on plea for probe | Chandigarh News

CHANDIGARH: Taking cognizance of a plea for letting the Central Bureau of Investigation examine the murder of Delhi civil defence personnel Rabia Saifi, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday issued a notice to the CBI and the Haryana government.
It gave the premier investigation agency and the state government until February 17, 2022, to file a reply. Rabia, 21, was stabbed to death on August 26 in Faridabad, and the murder FIR (first-information report) was registered at the Suraj Kund police station in that district. Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan of the high court has issued the notice based on the plea that Rabia’s parents, Sameed Ahmad and Praveen Jahan, had filed. They had earlier moved the Supreme Court for a CBI inquiry but the apex court had said it was high court’s jurisdiction.
Rabia’s parents claim that her murder was part of a conspiracy to cover up “rampant corruption in Delhi’s civil defence on the pretext of enforcing Covidappropriate behaviour”. They submitted that Rabia had confided in them that the money given to her on the pretext of safekeeping was ill-gotten. Rabia was unwilling to keep it but her superiors threatened to make her a scapegoat in the event of refusal or complaint, and said they could put her job at risk, her parents claimed.
Just a day after her murder, one Mohammad Nizamuddin surrendered before the Delhi police and confessed to have killed her. The family suspects some people to be involved and has reported “efforts to shield those others”. Nizamuddin had also claimed to be Rabia’s husband but the family denies it.
