Punjab sacrilege case: SIT to quiz dera chairperson, vice chairperson | Chandigarh News

BATHINDA: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the cases of sacrilege in Punjab has summoned dera chairperson Vipasana and vice chairperson PR Nain for questioning on November 26 in the case of theft of a “Bir” (copy) of Guru Granth Sahib in 2015. This was neccessitated after the replies of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim during his over 7-hour questioning at Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail on November 8 by SIT in the case lead nowhere.
The top dera functionaries been asked to reach the office of Ludhiana Range IG cum SIT head Surinderpal Singh Parmar in the morning. The SIT wants to question them on the dera’s role in the string of sacrilege cases that rocked Punjab in 2015.
SIT highlighted conspiracy angle before court
During SIT’s submission of report in the high court following the grilling of the dera head, it was underlined that the conspiracy for sacrilege was hatched at the dera headquarters at Sirsa in Haryana.
On February 18, 2020, five members of dera management had appeared before the SIT probing the blast at Maur town of Bathinda on January 31, 2017, that had claimed the lives of 7 people.
Sources said that during the questioning of dera head, the SIT had posed 114 questions to him and the Ram Rahim had evaded replies to most of them. Not satisfied with this, the SIT had demanded custodial interrogation of the dera head and the matter is sub-judice.
IG Surinderpal Singh Parmar confirmed that summons have been issued to dera chairperson and vice chairperson to appear before SIT on November 26.
