Punjab: One more tiffin bomb and 4 hand grenades recovered in Gurdaspur | Ludhiana News



GURDASPUR: Gurdaspur police recovered one tiffin bomb and four hand grenades from border village Salempur Araivan on Friday. This is believed to be the 7th tiffin bomb recovered from Punjab in the recent past.
Earlier on December 1, police had recovered 1 kg RDX and 3 detonators from Dinanagar area of Gurdaspur district.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurdaspur Dr Nanak Singh informed that the explosives were concealed in a sack that was recovered from Salempur Araivan village.
Giving details, he informed that during checking at T-Point near village Salempur Araiyan, police found a suspicious sack lying in the bushes on the roadside whose checking led to the recovery of four hand grenades and one tiffin bomb.
“Bomb Detection and Disposal teams (BDDS) have been informed to diffuse the explosive material,” he said.
In the recent past, Gurdaspur police had arrested Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Kakkar village, Raj Singh, and Jasmeet Singh whose interrogation led to the recovery of 1 kg RDX and two hand grenades.
Intelligence sources informed that the explosives could have been smuggled into the country from Pakistan either through the land route or airdropped by the drones whose movement have increased on the international border with Pakistan in Punjab in the recent past.
Nanak Singh informed that a case under sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act has been registered at police station Sadar Gurdaspur.
Earlier on September 23, police claimed to have busted a Khalistan Tiger Force backed terror module from the Bikhiwind area of Tarn Taran and had recovered two tiffin bombs packed in foam, two 86 P hand grenades, and three 9 mm pistols following the arrest of three persons. Kanwarpal Singh, Kulwinder Singh, and Kamalpreet Singh, all residents of Moga. One of the arrested persons Kanwarpal had returned from Canada.
Prior to that Amritsar, Rural, police had on August 8 recovered 5 hand grenades along with a tiffin bomb from village Daleke in Lopoke.
Similarly, Kapurthala police had on August 20 also recovered a similar consignment consisting of two live hand grenades, one live tiffin bomb, and other explosive material from Phagwara
One tiffin bomb was used to blow off an oil tanker in Ajnala on August 8, while another tiffin bomb was recovered from fields in village Dharmpura of Fazilka on September 18.
