MOHALI: Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday joined protesting teachers of Punjab in Mohali and promised if AAP would be voted to power, all contractual teachers would be confirmed soon.
Kejriwal along with Bhagwant Mann, AAP Punjab president, reached Phase VIII in Mohali, where contractual teachers have been protesting for 165 days and sat with them at the protest. Addressing the teachers, Kejriwal promised that as the AAP would form government in Punjab, contractual teachers and 906 guest faculty professors would be regularised. The education system of Punjab would be improved on priority basis as in Delhi.
He also requested protesters and Punjab people to give a chance to AAP to serve people in Punjab.
Later, Kejriwal met unemployed PTI teachers who have been protesting atop water tanks for 47 days in support of their demands. Kejriwal requested them to come down and not put their lives in danger while protesting on a tank in a winter season. While addressing them, Kejriwal said teachers should be in classrooms, not on water tanks for their demands.
Kejriwal also accused the Punjab government of putting hoardings in the state with claims of regularisation of 36,000 employees, but not confirmng the jobs of hundreds of teachers and sanitation workers.
