Irked over the apathetic attitude of government, the residents from colonies adjoining Balloke staged a protest on Tuesday and also blocked the traffic.
The residents rued that despite the fact that over 20,000 people live in the surrounding areas and many commuters take this road for reaching the national highway, only 1.5 km long stretch could not be constructed in 4.5 years. They threatened if the road will not be constructed they will not let any politician enter their locality for election campaign.
The residents from localities like Netaji Park, Ram Nagar, Gautam Vihar and Green Avenue are the worst affected. The residents also claimed that even street lights are missing on this route and in darkness it becomes more difficult and in the coming days fog will create problems.
A resident of Balloke Angrej Singh said, “We have been asking the MLA Kuldeep Vaid for construction of this stretch from past 4.5 years and he has been giving one or other excuse for delay but now when election code is about to be imposed we had to protest. We blocked traffic for 1.5 to 2 hours on Tuesday and next time it will be for entire day if road will not be constructed.” He said they will not support any party this time as it was not constructed for a long time. He claimed that many commuters met with accidents due to deep potholes daily but nobody is bothered.
Meanwhile Rahul Sharma, resident of Apple Villa who has his factory at this road said, “Not only employees and workers but other commuters have also met with accidents on daily basis.” He said the road has deep potholes and it is completely a mess. He claimed that roads in other areas were constructed but this stretch was left as it is.
However, the Congress MLA from Gill constituency Kuldeep Singh Vaid said, “Many roads are already built up and this small stretch is also going to be constructed soon. The officials are already on the job.”
