BATHINDA: Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday threatened to go on fast-unto-death if the Charanjit Singh Channi-led state government does not make the STF report on drugs public at the earliest. He has not given any deadline, but said at a public meeting at Baghapurana in Moga district that he would not wait for long. He also lambasted the government on slow progress in sacrilege cases.
The PPCC chief had accompanied Channi to the public meeting and made these utterances after the CM had left for Moga for another event. At a public meeting, he said, “what sort of government is this which could not deliver justice on two issues of sacrilege and justice” which are connected to the people. He sought to know why the drugs report has not been opened, and who stops the government. ”I declare that if the report is not made public soon I will start a fast-untodeath,” he added.
Sidhu pointed out that it has been two months since the present government was formed to address these issues as the previous regime had miserably failed to deliver justice in four-and-a-half years. He pointed out that Channi, in his speech, had said that the government is working as per the directions of the party, and emphasised that he was the party president in Punjab,so why was there a delay in providing justice in sacrilege and drugs cases.
Sidhu said that the government needed to work as per the aspirations of the people in the given time frame as the previous CM had to go for not acting in public interest and for the people.
Earlier, Channi too had said that Navjot Singh Sidhu is the party president and the government is acting as per the wishes of the party.
Sidhu had been taking on the government for long over the issue of quick action in sacrilege and drugs’ cases.
